Why is quantification important?
40 - 50% of a typical project costs are in the supply of materials, the remainder is in the management and installation of those materials. Almost 80% of these costs are fixed in the very early stages of the project and are difficult to influence downstream. It is therefore very important to get the quantification process right from the start as mistakes are difficult to rectify later. Equally to value engineer effectively a detailed understanding of material quantities is essential.
